Vehicle Automation Engineer (m/f/d)

The progression of the Autonomous Operator System (AOS) is your mission. Tasks include the conception, integration, programming, testing and commissioning of autonomous underground vehicles. Based on existing solutions and new technology, a flexible automation platform must be continuously progressed to match project specific requirements. You will be working with a strong team of experienced, creative, and dynamic developers, mainly located in Velbert but also distributed in Germany, South Africa, and Chile.

Tasks:

  • System design for autonomous vehicles and integration of already existing modules.
  • Programming of new modules and validation in simulation and field tests
  • Adaptation of different automation solutions, depending on customer application
  • Development of interfaces and communication protocols between system modules
  • Testing of the overall system functionality on proving grounds and mainly in underground mine field tests
  • Close and virtual cooperation within the core team and with our international development partners

Skills:

  • ROS 2 framework
  • Python and C++ programming
  • Software design and testing
  • SLAM optimization

  • Conceptual system development and its documentation
  • Technical understanding of vehicle technology (e.g. electrics, sensors, hydraulics, drive systems)
  • Solution-oriented approach, analytical skills and strong communication skills
  • High quality awareness, independent working style and ability to work in a team in interdisciplinary work groups
  • Fluent in English and German

Education & Experience:

  • University degree in Computer Science or Engineering,
    ideally with a focus on automation / robotics.
  • Robotics and automation project experience
  • Prototype development and testing experience
  • Underground mining experience is helpful

Other:

  • National and international travel to customer projects may be required occasionally.
  • Excitement to bring Robotics into real Mining environments building the Robotic Miner or Autonomous Operator System makes you part of the team
