Underground Communication

Personnel in mining operations will typically need to communicate over long distances and do so using underground mining telephones. They’re a vital part of creating a safe, efficient, and productive workplace.

What is Underground Communication

Communication is important in every industry and field, but it is especially important when it needs to happen underground, such as in mining, tunnelling, and other fields. Underground communication systems are needed to make sure workers are safe and to get more work done.

Collapses of mines, especially in coal mines, are a common problem in underground applications like mining, and it’s important to have a reliable and effective communication system to find trapped miners and get them out of the rubble.

A good underground communication system saves time when machines break down and sends messages right away from hundreds of feet below the ground to the right resources and people above ground. This increases productivity and lowers operational costs. If there isn’t a good way for miners to talk to each other, they must wait for the message to get there, and the mining operation must stop. This means that production is lost. If this kind of situation happens dozens or even hundreds of times a week, there would be a big drop in production.

An underground communication system needs to be able to send and receive voice, video, and data between people underground and on the surface. It also needs to have a tracking system that lets people on the surface know where anyone who is trapped underground is, and it needs to be able to withstand disasters.

Enhanced wireless underground communication is a fundamental step in enabling:

Underground wireless systems are used for more than just letting miners talk to people above ground and find out where they are. They are also used for several important tasks, such as remote monitoring and control of mining equipment, data acquisition for the different sensors in the mine (like seismic monitoring), and real-time access to information about how the mine is running. These tasks require talking to a worker, device, or piece of equipment that is on the move.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.

neroPLEXUS LEAKY FEEDER SOLUTION

A leaky feeder is a kind of communication system that is often utilized in underground mining and other tunnel situations. Manufacturers and cabling specialists use the phrase “radiating cable” because it indicates that the cable is meant to radiate, which is not something that coaxial cable is normally intended to accomplish.

neroPOYNT

Active Antenna System

It has long been a challenge to deliver WiFi in a working mine tunnel. Previous attempts to solve this critical enabler of a connected mine, compromised of a separate antenna and WiFi Radio with uninspiring results of less than 50 meters.

Introducing the neroPOYNT, a purpose-built custom underground mine antenna and multiband access point, all in a single product solution, that, in turn makes underground wireless connectivity a powerful experience.

Proven Technology

A South African designed and produced, directional wireless access point, delivering revolutionary underground WiFi connectivity, in the harshest mining environments.

Modern Communication

The fundamental enabler of modern safety, data analytics, and machine control is wireless underground communication. This in turn leads to streamlined operations and seamless productivity.

neroTALK

PUSH-TO-TALK OVER CELLULAR

neroTALK devices are dual sim enabled as well as WIFI capable. When in a WiFi vicinity, the neroTALK broadcasts its communication through the WiFi connection. As soon as WiFi is no longer available the neroTALK then switches to one of the two local network sim cards with the strongest signal and broadcasts over that network.

The neroTALK has a redundant network connection, so that even if one network provider is unavailable, it will be switched to the other or to WiFi so that you and your team are always able to stay in communication. Most hand-held radios are only half duplex, meaning only one person can talk at a time whilst the others listen, but the neroTALK is full duplex. This means the neroTALK has a similar experience to a phone call, where all parties can hear and speak to each other simultaneously.
